When timber is processed, it is not unusual to get planks which feature one side covered in the outer tree bark.  If handled correctly and dried very slowly, it is possible to create bowl blanks that feature this outer bark.  Once turned, due to the blank’s unusual shape, the result is not a true circle, but instead a graceful, natural edge, hence the term ‘live-edge’, keeping the bark intact.
