A Box Bottle Stopper, presented in a rustic style.  Box, is an extremely rare wood, as it is no longer produced or harvested commercially.  Being such a dense timber, Box is a favourite when it comes to turning and carving.  Its rarity is a result of the losses in the seasoning process, which are usually between 60 – 80%.  Historically, Box was seasoned in sealed pits in the ground. I was delighted to be gifted this small piece and enjoyed refining its natural beauty.  Having been polished and shaped, it has received three coats of hard wearing Finishing Oil.
